First theatrical screening of the documentary film La Vida es una Milonga, on Saturday, September 25 at 6:30 pm in Room 1 of the San Martin Cultural Center (Sarmiento 1551, CABA) as part of the Buenos Aires Tango Festival and World Championship.
The film, which has been released by CINE AR channel in October 2019, comes to the big screen in a single screening, after having been broadcasted several times on TV and by streaming through its website to the whole world.
The 70-minute documentary portrays the milonga (tango dance), as the primordial cell that gives life to that particular cultural movement of the city of Buenos Aires and today present all over the world. And it reveals the economic and social network behind the organization of a milonga. Its protagonist, Oscar Héctor Malagrino, is an important promoter of the genre, dancer and organizer of dances in the city for almost sixty years. The film also features the special participation of Gabriel Sodini, tango DJ and organizer, Aylén Kutnowsky, musician and dancer, Paulo Baudoin, dancer and poet, and tango singer Leo Borreli.
The film, written and directed by Luciano Giusti and produced by Coruya Cine, travels through Buenos Aires milonguera in 2015 and 2016. Many of the milongas portrayed no longer exist, but in the memory of those who attended them. Thus, the film functions as a living memory of the milonga of Buenos Aires at the beginning of the 21st century, and as an inspiration for thousands of milongas to flourish again around the world, after the impasse imposed by the pandemic.
